New York  2008 – 2009

With Hopes Dreams and Hard Times, I had the opportunity to take an introspective gaze to the microcosm of the inhabitants of New York, as they record customs and behavior in the post 9/11 era, the times of the first African-American president, but also the age of economic collapse.

I attempt to capture the image of New York, a landscape with sharp contrasts and diversity, as a collage, made through the appointment of the characteristics of people who agreed to participate in the project.

The workplace, a house, a living environment, the city itself, made the scene that everyone picks alone to describe himself. Here they all sit in front of the lens in a way that they believe represents them and their claims.

As a photographer, open to all proposed scenarios, I become the second look that captures through the lens the outcome of this “direction.” Investigating, and interpreting, hopefully with sensibility and respect, the relationship between space-scope and the human presence, as it stands at each case.
